The Site

This steep site falls in the northern direction, with some views to the Wollongong escarpment and oceans. The existing brick veneer, two-storey home was built circa 1960.

The Brief

Though providing a lot of accommodation, the established home’s circulation flow and orientation of living spaces needed some improvement.

The Process

The final design limits the demolition and proposes an internal reconfiguration of the spaces. The main element is to provide an open plan living and kitchen area that extend from the backyard elevation to the northern elevation, providing cross-ventilation and new views to the garden.

A steel structure and timber addition to the north elevation will provide an outdoor living space to the north.

“We have been delighted with our new home and its functionality. Nathalie’s thoughtful design included all our preferences for a light filled house, taking full advantage of our garden views both north and south. The result has been a calm and beautiful space, with a central living area incorporating kitchen, lounge, dining… the hub of our house, and a private lower floor for family and visitors. Nathalie was extremely perceptive in her interpretation of our thoughts and ideas creating a design that achieved everything we were looking for and more. We are delighted with the relationship and the results.”
