The Site

Situated in Dee Why on a large block with established gardens, the existing timber cottage needed some renovation. The northern aspect of this site faces street frontage.

The Brief

Seeking to renovate the existing cottage, the alteration and addition had to accommodate large living spaces for the family, open to the northern aspect and to the deck and garden. The clients wanted to create a sustainable home with as many improvements to the energy and thermal efficiencies of their living spaces as possible.

The Process

The preservation of the existing cottage for open living areas created a tight building envelope for the addition, accommodating the bedrooms and services spaces. Challenges arose from the need for space with good orientation and a set budget.

Design, which is currently under construction, is minimalist, functional and flexible.
